In 1928-1929, the 1902 Model .38 was discontinued and the 1911 .45 was chambered for the 38 super cartridge. Production started January 3, 1929 and continues today. In 1933 a Super Match model was introduced; discontinued during WW II. After the war, a few 38 Super Gold Cup models were made. The Super 38 Mexican model was manufactured for the Mexican government and lacked the grip safety. The arched housing is a solid piece, integral with the frame. The Commander lightweight models were introduced in 1949.
